Thought I would take you all along on my modeling process for 3d print making.

Finished the base model in Blender and will now (tomorrow) take it into Zbrush to finish as part of my workflow.

After that I'll bring it back into Blender to do all the armor and additional doodads. I'll also clean up the model for printing in Blender.

I am not very good yet but getting a little better with every sculpt. I find it easier making armor and accessories in Blender.

Also, I tried to sculpt fur and failed miserably so going to try to do some stylized fur using curves in Blender. Not sure if it will be better but I'll have to see how it looks.

Not sure if this is the pose. I am going to sleep on it and also look at more reference poses to see if I like one better.

With these type of models you can add a skeleton and change the poses as needed or animate them.

I did have to see how it would look like as a cnc pattern (bas relief).

David,

Thanks for the comment. I got my 3d printer just for the purpose of making useless trinkets and figurines. The cnc if for real work. lol

I am having a blast making a ton of useless trinkets. Now this is my work flow so there are many other ways to do these.

I unfortunately have made a couple of useful items. Some painting blocks for my lacquer spraying and some leather stamps for my leather working (it was a vampire skull so still slightly in the useless category).

What are you looking to make with your future 3d printer?

Fixtures, forms, templates, or at least pieces to go with those I may cut on the CNC. I'm sure there are plenty of 'useless' items I could print and probably will when the time comes to get one. I'm more interested in the engineering side of things than the cosmetic or trinket side so that's probably where I'll lean.

Nice. Definitely can be used for that.

I made a quick depth block gauge for my router table for my Native American flute builds. The print is ~.002-3 inches off so well within the accuracy that I need for my woodworking. I know there are calibrations that can be done to increase size accuracy of the prints but for my needs this is plenty.

Pretty happy with the model. CURA says about an 15 hour print for the base and body. I plan to print the sword separately.

Hopefully a little entertaining on how I make my models.

Same process for cnc patterns except I have to decide whether to model as bas relief from the start or attempt to project the 3d model onto a plane for the bas relief.
